Tactics

First gigs aren't supposed to go so well. Sure, most bands can play the songs, but it's rare that any sound as refined, as concise, and as technically proficient as Tactics. Opening for This Will Destroy You on one of the chilliest nights of 2010, the foursome - you may recognize some members from the nerf-ballin' Zlam Dunk - got Red River's outpost rocking early. -- Austin Music Weekly

Equals

Busting out instrumental post rock in some of the strangest time signatures we've seen from a guitar band (set closer "Table Monster" is in 7/8!), Equals had fuzz to burn throughout their set inside Emo's. Every song's a mini-opus for the quintet that splits its time between Austin, San Marcos, and Houston; a tightly arranged composition that flies off the handle of drummer Matt Toman's frantic fills. Beware of wayward feedback. - Austin Music Weekly

Dana Falconberry

Somewhere between a lonely sea and a lifeless orange desert, alongside a railroad track, surrounded by farmland, on a slow riverbank, Dana Falconberry is writing songs. Haunting, earnest, playful songs that bravely explore the often puzzling territory of the human heart with the wisdom, compassion, and understanding of a true original. In person, as on record, Falconberry’s low-key charisma and unconventional vocals will instantly capture your heart. Her down-home sincerity, nuanced folk-influenced melodies and a lyrical sense that blends classic simplicity with subtle literary finesse marks her as a surprisingly original artist.

The Blue Hit

Since May of 2007, The Blue Hit has been bending the lines of folk music into a new genre all its own. Taking aspects of music from every spectrum there is, the original and introspective songwriting and dynamic arrangements crafted by this trio have produced a sound that is unlike any other while still making any listener feel like they have been to this place before. Their debut album, Move In, was released in 2009 after two years of crafting songs in a garage on east 51st street in Austin, TX.

Danny Malone

Raised in Dallas, this multi-instrumentalist grew up with the sweet sounds of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline, but could not ignore his youthful penchant for rebellious indie rock, and so, for years, he has been cultivating a unique relationship between foot-stomping indie pop and heart aching poems. You should expect to hear songs that make you dance mixed with lyrics that tug on your heart.

After the self release of their well-received, debut full-length, “20,000 Ghosts”, in 2009, The Rocketboys had tracks featured on a plethora of TV shows including 2010 Winter Olympic Games, “The Real World”, “Teen Mom”, “The Buried Life” and “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”, among others.

Oh No Oh My

Oh No Oh My formed in Austin, Texas USA, in the fall of 2004 by recording a series of demo songs. Led by the success of these demos, including a song called “Walk in the Park”, the band quickly gained a small following in just a short matter of months in the summer of 2006, and came to the point where the demos hastily assembled into an album, called “Oh No! Oh My!” It led the band to tour all over the USA for the next 2 years, playing with bands such as The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, Mew, and also to play various festivals such as Lollapalooza, Detour, and sxsw.

HotChaCha started as a girl band on an early Friday morning (in late March of 2007) at the West Side Market in Cleveland.

Mandy Aramouni and Jovana Batkovic were sipping on coffee and decided that due to Mandys’ brilliant guitar sound, and Jovanas’ outrageous stage presence, they had something HUGE going on. A few days later a local drummer, Lisa, was txt messaged to come and jam with the above mentioned broads.

In the heart of the live music capital of the world, six friends came together to form a band that would make a lasting impression not only in music, but also in people’s lives. After dealing with several obstacles for over two years, the band persevered to produce their most honest, personal songs to date. Their new album, Chase the White Whale, is a reflection of the struggle and sacrifice it took, but also the underlying sense of hope that was never lost.

For Hours And Ours

The name For Hours and Ours stands for exactly what this band is. It is the bond between each other and the connection with the audience. For Hours and Ours began with sleepovers in a Clarksville basement a block behind Austin’s own Waterloo records. What was initially an extension of old friendships soon turned into weekend parties in friends’ houses or on the Lamar Pedestrian Bridge. With a year and several guitar players behind them, the band’s core ethic of community has remained intact while having sonically matured.

In 2007, they self-released “The L EP”, an eclectic hybrid of electronic dance tracks that quickly established the group in the heart of the Austin, TX party scene. By early 2009, the duo had grown three-fold, adding Yadira Brown (Vocals), Jon Oswald (Drums), Rory Allen Phillips (Guitar), Chris D’Annunzio (Bass), and  occasionally joined by Santiago Vela (percussion). These additions have expanded the group’s musical range and  elevated their status as a must-see live act.
